THE ROAD TO STATE
As the earliest major high school basketball tournament held each year in November, the McDonald’s Texas Invitational Basketball Tournament adopted as its slogan, “The Road to State Starts Here.” Indeed, it does.
Since its inception, 17 teams who have played in the MTI in these respective years have won UIL’s coveted Texas State Basketball Championship. That has happened more often than not in the tournament’s 21-year history. In addition to these championship teams, 26 other teams who played in the MTI during the same time frame advanced at least to the state semi-finals, UIL’s Final Four.
The following are the MTI Boys’ and Girls’ teams who went on to win the Texas State Championship:
