KINGWOOD WINS 3RD CONSECUTIVE
TEXAS INVITATIONAL TITLE

The Kingwood Mustangs won a hard-fought win over the Klein Forest Eagles 58 to 49 to claim their third straight Texas invitational title in the gold division championship game played Saturday evening, November 20, 2004 at Phillips Fieldhouse.

Nic Wise, the 5’10’ junior point guard led the Mustangs with 22 points, including four three pointers. Mike Singletary chipped in with 10 points. Klein Forest was led by Jumane Reed with 14 and Derrick Jacobs with 12.

The game was tied at 46 all at the end of regulation but Kingwood used ball control and accurate shooting to win the title.

Wise was named tournament MVPand he also won the three point contest over all other competitors from each team.

On the way to the championship Kingwood won over Houston Scarborough 53 to 43, over Galveston ball 58 to 42, over Cinco Ranch 51 to 26, Alief Hastings 74 to 61 and over Alief Elsik 68 to 52. Going 6 and 0 in the three day tournament was a great way to start the season for Kingwood. Congratulations to coach Huseman and the Mustangs.

Gold division third place game cancelled due to shattered backboard

The much anticipated game between Fort Bend Marshall and Alief Elsik was labeled no contest as it was stopped right before halftime. Fort Bend’s Darris Santee shattered the fiberglass backboard with a rim rocking dunk. Elsik was leading the game 44 to 38, but both coaches agreed to call it a “no contest”, therefore it will not count as a win or a loss for either team.

Work crews cleaned the glass from the floor and another backboard was installed with just a forty five minute delay before the championship game started.
